K-M3… Brass ager. If you have a new furniture-making project coming up, one of the best ways to improve the look of your brass details is to make them darker and age them up. Use this K-M3 Brass Ager, an 8-ounce bottle solution designed to produce color-adjusted brass, copper, bronze, or tin.
This easy-to-apply brass aging solution provides controlled, gradual color change on your metal hardware without altering dimensions, perfect for achieving an aged or antique look on most non-coated metals. Many of our customers use this brass ager on our brass knobs to match their antiques or add a vintage detail to modern furniture.
This brass ager is ideal for new brass hardware or shiny brass pieces, including knobs, pulls, and more. To darken brass using this brass ager darkening solution, follow these instructions:
- Clean the surface, and apply the solution with rags or paper towels or soak the piece into the solution.
- Watch for the desired color change.
- To control the color change process, rinse the piece to stop the darkening. Then, dry and polish using steel wool to highlight the top area.
- Use on clean, uncoated metals for best results.
To achieve a dark antique or aging finish on some trunk hardware, grind through the brassy finish. This will allow the darkening solution to create a simulated antique “blotchy look” similar to aged trunks.
Always wear gloves to avoid oily fingers interfering with the application. Note: Not suitable for certain coated trunk hardware (specifically if it has a “D” in front of the item number).
We also carry a nickel ager as well. Check it out here M-3NA!

Works quickly but darkening is easily removed from new brass with polish. I guess you would spray on lacquer to make permanent.
