OBG-9ANTB… Antique brass trunk slat clamp. Often used to cover the corner where wooden trunk slats meet. Stamped steel with antique brass finish. Each leg measures 1-7/8″ long x 1-1/2″ wide with 4 mounting holes. Original trunk hardware was attached with trunk nails which were about 1/4″ longer than the trunk walls thickness. Nails were then bent over inside and covered with wall paper.
This method was used to prevent hardware from being pulled loose during transport. Of course screws, rivets and screw post were also used. Trunks have been produced for thousands of years but most were produced from late 18th century through the early 20th century when suitcase production replaced the need for trunks. Sold individually without mounting hardware.
